Discussion Questions-chapters 15-21

1. How would you feel if you got captured in the lab and got a shot?

If I was in a lab getting shots I'd be frightened and maybe I'd try to escape but it;s very hard to now if your not captured in a lab.

2. Do you think its a good thing doing experiments on animals?

No I don't like it, I just really like animals. I must admit that there are a few animals I don't like (ex spiders, cockoroaches and snakes, probably a few more and rats arent really my favorite).

3. How would you escape from the lab? Would you?

If I were a rat which I am not I think I woud let Justin do the work cauze I don't know what it looks like there so I don't know how I'd escape.

4. If you were as intelligent as the rats, what would you invent? Explain.

If I were as smart as the rats I'd invent a fast transportation and maybe somthing like a phone so you can tell others where you are without going back.

5. Who do you prefer Dr  Schults, Julie or George? Explain why.

I prefer Julie because she feels a bit sorry for the rats, or at least she says:"poor thing".

6.  How does the author uses irony to describe the rats escape?

I don't think the author uses irony to describe the rats escape or any other part of the book.

7. What would you train your animals to do if you were a NIMH scientist?

If I was a NIHM scientest i'd teech the rats to do tricks and other intresting things.

8. Why do you think it's not a good thing to give shots to animals?

I think it's bad to give shots to animals cause it might scare them, hurt them or chage their lives in a way that they might not like.

9. What do the rats discover in the toy tinkers truck? How does it help the rats?

In the toy Tinker the rats find tools it helps them  to invent stuff for their home.

10. Have you ever been in a situation where you have felt trapped?

Not really but once my sister was screaming at my parents and I din't want to get involved, well lets say alot of times.

11. What do you think about rats?

In real lif i find rats a bit freaky and would keep away, but in this story I really like the rats especially JUSTIN.

12. If you were a scientist, what animal would you test on? Why?

If i were a scientist i'd try not to test on animals, if I had to i'd test on an animal that arent rare.

Litterary Elements-8-14

SETTING:  Describe where the rats live.

The rats live in a lair underneath a rose bush, all the rats live together except Jenner and 6 other rats who didn't agree to the plan. At the roebush is a entrance which is hidden. Then there is along hallway leading to a gaurded door, when Mrs Frisby goes to the rat there is a rat named Brutus gaurding the entrance as subcitute of Justin. At the rats lair there is a long hall which gets darker and darker the further they go, until, at some point the rats have lights with colered glass over it to make it look pretty. The rats also have somthing like a fan for fresh air and wind, in the book it said that Mrs Frisby felt wind blowing past her. After a pasage there is a storage room. When Mrs Frisby sees it, it is empty. In the storage room there is an elevator but also long spiral stairs. Mrs Frisby takes the elavator because Mr Ages has a broken leg. First she thinks she's falling but when Justin realized he explained it to her. At the end of the ride there is a very big meeting room which is 3 times bigger than the storage room. There is also a door leading to a hall where the rats living quarter is. In that hallway is a library. The library is a big room where there are shelves of books, in the library is also a board which had part of the plan on it.

(another room in the rats lair is a huge cave where the rats were making plows gathering seeds ect.)

PLOT:  What was the most important event that happened in chapters 8-14? Explain why?

I think the most important event that happened in Chapters 8-14 is the part where Miiss Frisby is at the rats lair and Nicodemus starts telling the story about how the rats know mr ages and Jonathan. It also tells how the rats are so smart and know Mrs Frisby. The part that is in the chapters 8-14 is not as important as the rest. I really like the part where the rats have reading lessons and learn how to open their cages. I really like the escape route andthat 6 mice get blown away. That part is very sad though. I like how Mr Ages is the one who came up with the plan of them going through and opening it instead of Jonathan.

CHARACTERS:  Which character do you think is similar to you? Why?

I think I am a bit like Justin because I've got alot of nice friends and Justin seems determin to escape from NIMH, when I am determined of somthing it usually works as long as it isn't impossible. I am also like Timothy because I get sick alot especially in the winter cause I'm never cold so I do't wair my jacket and i get sick.

AUTHORS LANGUAGE:  On page 77, Justin describes something as "...like picking fruit." What is he referring to when he says this? Can you create your own simile using "as" or "like" to describe something?

When Justin says ...like picking fruit he was reffering to the lightbulbs hanging on the tree's for christmas that the rats stole to put in their lair. Justin said that they only took a few from evry tree. It was like picking fruit.

Good job! Remember you only need to do 6 of the 12 discussion questions. Add more detail to 6 of them!

Good overall job Malika. You did an excellent job on your literary elements section. Please watch your spelling and pay attention to words that are underlined while you are typing and go back and edit your work.
